The fishing trawler Neptune was one of the finest boats in the Claddagh fishing Fleet. She sunk on December 17th 1917 after hitting what was probably a German mine, all were lost but Stephen Melia later known as Máilleogs, an apparently lost soul of sorts who lived on derelict trawler's on the Galway docks.
